Frequently Asked Questions

Fertility FAQs

Can therapy help me cope with IVF treatment?

IVF can be emotionally exhausting. Therapy can help you manage anxiety, uncertainty, disappointment, relationship pressures and the emotional rollercoaster that often accompanies fertility treatment. Drawing on some 26 years of experience supporting fertility patients, including work at the Zita West Clinic, I help clients develop practical coping strategies and emotional resilience throughout their journey.

How can hypnotherapy support fertility treatment?

Clinical hypnotherapy can help reduce stress, improve sleep, calm intrusive thoughts and support emotional wellbeing during fertility treatment. Many clients use hypnosis as a complementary tool alongside medical treatment to feel more relaxed and emotionally supported.

Can you help with fertility anxiety?

Yes. Fertility anxiety is one of the most common reasons clients seek support. Whether you’re waiting for test results, facing IVF decisions or struggling with uncertainty, therapy can help you feel calmer and more in control.

Is fertility counselling only for people undergoing IVF?

Not at all. I work with people trying to conceive naturally, those facing unexplained infertility, recurrent miscarriage, secondary infertility and individuals considering donor conception or alternative family-building options.

How do I cope with the two-week wait?

The two-week wait can be one of the most emotionally challenging aspects of fertility treatment. I help clients develop practical strategies to manage anxiety, reduce obsessive thinking and create a greater sense of emotional balance during this period.

Can therapy help after a failed IVF cycle?

Yes. Failed cycles often bring grief, anger, disappointment and self-doubt. My protocol provides a safe space to process these emotions and decide on next steps without feeling overwhelmed.

Can you support me after miscarriage or pregnancy loss?

Yes. Pregnancy loss can have a profound emotional impact. Therapy can help you process grief, manage anxiety about future pregnancies and rebuild confidence in yourself and your body.

Why does fertility treatment affect mental health so much?

Fertility treatment involves uncertainty, repeated waiting, hope, disappointment and a loss of control. Many people experience anxiety, stress, grief and emotional exhaustion. These reactions are completely understandable and more common than many realise.  I have a protocol built over some 26 years which helps you to withstand the pressure of trying to conceive and at the same time, genuinely, with renewed optimism, even after failure, continue the journey.

Therapy & Hypnotherapy FAQs

What happens during a therapy session?

Sessions are tailored to your individual needs. Together, we explore what is causing distress, identify helpful coping strategies and work towards helping you feel more resilient and emotionally supported.

What happens during a hypnotherapy session?

Hypnotherapy involves guided relaxation and focused attention. You remain aware and in control throughout the session. It is a collaborative process designed to help you access your own internal resources and create positive change.

Can everyone be hypnotised?

Most people can experience hypnosis when they are willing to engage with the process. Hypnosis is a natural state of focused attention and relaxation.

Will I lose control during hypnosis?

No. You remain fully aware and cannot be made to do anything against your wishes.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends on your goals and circumstances. Some clients benefit from short-term focused work, while others prefer ongoing support throughout their fertility journey.
